Update on the National Training Initiative
What’s the latest on the National Training Initiative?
As you may have heard California is participating as a pilot site in the National Adoption Competency Mental Health Training Initiative (NTI). NTI is developing two state of the art, standardized, web-based trainings to build the capacity of child welfare professionals and mental health practitioners in all States, Tribes and Territories. The end goal is to empower professionals nationally to better understand and address the mental health needs of children, youth and their families moving toward or having achieved permanency through adoption and guardianship.
We’ve been getting great feedback and participation from the pilot users in California. CCR has been instrumental in planning the implementation of the pilot and engaging users.Phase I is ending this month of December 2017. Those participants who have not completed the training this month are encouraged to continue your modules as they will still be available via the internet.
CCR is now working to engage pilot users in the NTI pilot for mental health practitioners. We anticipate beginning this pilot in March of 2018, but sign up now by emailing:CFSNTI@DSS.CA.gov. If you know any agencies or individuals who work in a clinical capacity with foster or adoptive children and families please encourage them tosign up now to the email box.
